Common PTZOptics Camera Error Messages
Camera error messages appear in the upper-left corner of the camera's live video feed. Use this guide to understand what each message means, recognize related symptoms, and determine the next troubleshooting step.

ARM ERROR
The camera cannot complete its startup sequence. During startup, the camera pans and tilts to its movement limits. An obstruction or resistance can prevent that movement and trigger an ARM error.
Common causes include an enclosure that restricts the camera's full range of motion or paint and other modifications that create friction while the camera pans.
ARM ERROR symptoms
- The Standby and Power LEDs remain solidly lit.
- The camera forces its video output to 1080p30.
- Pan, tilt, and zoom functions cannot be controlled with the remote control.
- Grinding, mechanical, or buzzing sounds occur during startup.
- The camera stops partway through its startup sequence.
Troubleshoot ARM ERROR
- Confirm that the camera is free of obstructions and has room to complete its full pan and tilt movement.
- If the camera stops at a specific point during startup, take a photo or video showing where it gets stuck.
- Contact PTZOptics Support and share the recording and error message.
ZOOM FOCUS ERROR
This error indicates a connection problem between the lens assembly and the printed circuit board (PCB) at the base of the camera. The connection may need to be reattached, but replacement is often required.

Grinding, mechanical, or buzzing sounds occur during startup, usually from the lens assembly.
Resolve ZOOM FOCUS ERROR
Contact PTZOptics Support to discuss service or replacement options. This can require an extensive repair to the lens assembly or its connection.
Zoom Error
The zoom mechanism inside the lens may have come off its track. An incorrect zoom GPIO setting in the camera's firmware can also cause this error.

Grinding, mechanical, or buzzing sounds occur during startup, usually from the lens assembly.
Resolve Zoom Error
Contact PTZOptics Support to determine whether the issue is mechanical or firmware-related. A mechanical failure may require replacement of the lens assembly or the camera.
Focus Error
The focusing mechanism inside the lens may have come off its track. An incorrect focus GPIO setting in the camera's firmware can also cause this error.
Focus Error symptoms
- Grinding, mechanical, or buzzing sounds occur during startup, usually from the lens assembly.
- The image is out of focus.
- Manual focus adjustment may no longer work.

Contact PTZOptics Support to determine whether the issue is mechanical or firmware-related. A mechanical failure may require replacement of the lens assembly or the camera.
AF INIT OVERTIME
The camera's autofocus failed during initialization.
AF INIT OVERTIME symptoms
- The image is out of focus.
- Manual focus adjustment may no longer work.
Troubleshoot AF INIT OVERTIME
Observe whether the camera eventually produces a clear image:
- If focusing takes longer than expected but eventually works normally, the issue may be software-related.
- If the camera never focuses clearly, the symptoms point to a zoom/focus failure that may require extensive repair or replacement.
Contact PTZOptics Support with the error message and describe whether focus eventually recovers.
0x00009999 — MOVE SE
This error affects a group of MOVE SE cameras shipped shortly after the model's release. These cameras had an incorrect serial number programmed internally.
Correct the stored serial number
- Locate the camera's correct serial number on its box.
- Contact PTZOptics Support and provide that serial number and the
0x00009999error code. - Support will arrange remote access to a computer on the camera's network and send a command to correct the camera's internally stored serial number.
The error message clears once the correct serial number is programmed.
